Doesn’t that look divine!? Of course, it does. Here is how you make it.
If you like this apple dessert, you might also like Apple Dump Cake with Caramel Sauce.
First, preheat your oven to 350°. Then you need 5 granny smith apples. Peel them and slice them.
Next, melt 4 tablespoons of butter in your lovely Pioneer Woman cast iron skillet. Or whatever cast iron skillet you have. Mine is a 12″ by the way. Then, throw in 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 tsp of cinnamon, and mix it all around.
Toss in the peeled and sliced apples. Cook until slightly tender. Then turn the skillet off and leave it there or set aside.
For the topping, you need 1 1/2 cups oats, 2 tbsp of flour (I used bread flour), 6 tbsp cold butter sliced into pieces, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 1 tsp cinnamon. Toss everything into a bowl and use a pastry cutter to mix it all together until it’s crumbly.
Spread the topping over the apples in the skillet.
Slide the skillet into the oven set at 350 for about 35 minutes. Serve with vanilla ice cream or just eat the crisp by itself, it’s amazing either way!
